Ph.D. student Evan Flint attended the Western North American Region (WNAR) Conference of the International Biometric Society this June, marking his first professional conference experience. He began the event with an instructional workshop designed to deepen his skills in R, particularly the tidyverse library, and spent the following days attending research presentations from fellow OSU graduate students, faculty, and scholars across the field. Evan also delivered a talk on his own research, Comparison of Survival Estimators with Mark-Capture Data, to an audience of about fifty attendees, receiving thoughtful questions and feedback that helped him consider new future directions.

Beyond the academic program, Evan took advantage of the conference’s beautiful Whistler setting by exploring the area, connecting with peers and professors, and attending the closing banquet, where he learned about upcoming events and award announcements. He shared that the experience strengthened his research and presentation skills, expanded his professional network, and deepened his ties within the OSU Statistics community.

Evan expressed sincere gratitude to the College of Science and scholarship donors by saying, "I am incredibly appreciative of the College of Science and scholarship donors who assisted me with this experience. I strongly believe my attendance at WNAR has had a strong, positive impact on my time at OSU."
