Professors Yanming Di and Lydia Newton Receive NSF Grant

Congratulations to Yanming Di as well as Lydia Newton for their NSF grant sponsored project aimed at developing and enhancing after-school activities for K-12 students in rural Oregon. This project is led by Cory Buxton from the College of Education and offers a teaching model that integrates current research on the role of language in science learning, the significance of cultural connections in students' science engagement, and how students' science knowledge evolves over time. Di’s and Newton’s roles include designing and analyzing surveys, developing statistical tools to quantify and assess various educational outcomes. Data science-focused class modules were also created for the project.
