The Department of Statistics provides consulting services in several formats to clients both within and external to Oregon State University. Use this index to connect with the type of service you would like, and use the links to find out more information.
Note that projects with a survey or sampling component may be routed to the Survey Research Center (also part of the Statistics Deparment). You may contact the Survey Research Center directly as well.
Current OSU Students
We provide statistical advice on research problems during Fall, Winter and Spring terms. Unfortunately we don't offer this service during the summer months. This service cannot be used for help with coursework. Please direct any questions to Lisa Ganio, ganiol <at> oregonstate.edu.
We currently offer statistical consulting in two formats:
Your project will be assigned to a Statistics graduate student who is enrolled in ST 509 (Consulting Practicum) on a first-come-first-served basis. The Statistics student, advised by a faculty member in the department, will meet with you to discuss the assistance you would like, write a summary of your request, and in collaboration with the consulting practicum provide recommendations within the first 7 weeks of the term. This format offers more in-depth feedback, but the time to response is slower. More information about what to expect in the long format is here.

You will meet with one of the Consulting GTAs for a short 45-minute advice session, offered Weeks 2-10 of fall, winter and spring terms. Short format consulting is not available during summer sessions. The calendar for scheduling short format appointments during a quarter is available beginning on the Wednesday of the first full week of a term. The scheduling calendar is not accessible between terms. The short format is intended for shorter questions or cases where immediate feedback is needed. More information about the drop-in format is here.
